The International Olympic Committee recognises the International Federation of Basque Pelota as the worldwide regulatory body for Basque pelota. It establishes the rules for international contests and organises them. On May 19, 1929, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the International Federation of Basque Pelota was founded by the French Federation of Basque Pelota, the Spanish Federation of Basque Pelota, and the Argentine Federation of Basque Pelota.


The International Handball Federation (IHF) administers handball and beach handball. IHF is responsible for organising the major international handball tournaments, including the 1938-established IHF World Men's Handball Championship and the 1957-established IHF World Women's Handball Championship.


The International Tennis Federation (ITF) governs tennis, beach tennis, and wheelchair tennis worldwide. The International Lawn Tennis Federation was created in 1913 by twelve national tennis associations. ITF membership consists of 211 national and six regional associations as of 2016.


The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball is the international governing body for all forms of volleyball. It has its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its current president is Brazilian Ary Graca. France established the FIVB in April 1947.


The International Basketball Federation is a confederation of national basketball governing bodies that administers basketball worldwide. Originally known as the Fédération internationale de basket-ball amateur (hence FIBA), the organisation deleted the word "amateur" in 1989 but kept the abbreviation.
